Welcome to the Cranks restaurant section. Our first restaurant was set up in Carnaby Street, London, in 1961. Today we are very proud to say that we still have a restaurant flying the flag for Cranks, in Dartington, Devon, which has a reputation as one of the finest restaurants around, and continues to produce delicious dishes on a daily basis.
Run by Jo Dovell, who also plays a large part in cooking and hosting, the restaurant has sat on the site of an old Cider Press for over 30 years, and lures in customers looking for something out of the ordinary from all over the UK. Obviously people who live in Scotland won’t nip there for a spot of lunch, but they might visit on holiday.
Every meal in this self-service restaurant is cooked from scratch, in our on-site kitchen by Tristan, Gwydion, James and Patricia every day. It’s the only way we can guarantee everything is as fresh as we want it to be. And this small but mind-bogglingly efficient team help create a warm, homely atmosphere too. We’re not a massive chain, with swanky fittings and frosted glass plates, but what we may lack in unnecessary extravagance, we more than make up for in sublime food.
All the bread is baked locally with Organic flour, all the food is sourced locally (and by locally we don’t mean France or anything, we mean in Devon) and if you don’t fancy having your lunch in our garden, you can always ask for it to take away to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
