We've been around for over fifty years now, and our recipes have been shared and enjoyed all over the world. If you've got any specific memories of Cranks that you'd like to share, please let us know - we'd love to hear your stories.
I was a medical student in London in the early 70s. Cranks was my favourite place. Being vegetarian was no so easy in mainstay eating establishments at the time (cheese or egg salad does not cut mustard). It was fantastic to take friends on Saturday to experience the flavours and cuisine of Cranks. Thankyou. Over 40 years later its great to see you are still going strong.

I have been working at Cranks for a very long time. I don’t like to count the years as it makes me feel too old.
How did it all start?
I remember, very well, my first week. All dressed up in my blue and white floral frock (that was the uniform in those days). I was called in to help out one busy day (I had to bunk off college), and never left. I was loving it.
One week later I was making the bread. In those days I could’nt even fry an egg. People passing by in the early morning would smell the bread and tap on the window, so we would sell them the bread straight from the oven.
This place holds many a good story. Some funny and some not so funny. (Maybe I'll write a book on it one day.)
Way back, we would swap the left over food for lovely Dartington pots made by the pottery students – they loved our food and we loved their handmade pots. Everyone was happy.
It seems incredible that we are still going strong after all this time - long may it continue.
